We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Fascinating podcast. I’ve been telling everyone for several years now that kids are better served by reducing the top-down obsession with college, and offering and promoting more hands-on training programs. They have an option in our school district, but do not promote it much and you have to take a bus somewhere and since all the teachers and administration talk about is college, college, college ... kids take the hint.
Even for kids who end up going to college, graduating and getting higher-end jobs, those classes/programs are still useful and attractive — lots of boys especially need to spend some part of their day engaged in something “hands on”. It would help them stay focused and engaged in other classes too. Like the guy in the podcast says, “meet them where they are”.
