We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I do fear that I waste time. I have an easy lifestyle and enjoy reading and aimless wandering on the internet. I spend about 4 months traveling/vacationing during the year and to be honest I'm not sure that is the best use of time either. The most rewarding thing I have done recently is to take in our three grandchildren for three years while mom was a guest of the state. (Mom is out now, remarried to a nice guy has her children back and doing well.) I miss the kids terribly, yes I see them from time to time and enjoy that but I miss the 24/7 caring for them and watching them grow.
But I don't have any good ideas on what would be a good or meaningful us of my time. Yes I could volunteer but I'm not really all that supportive of the volunteer opportunities available.
