We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Yeah, but you were probably a serious student as was I. Began college at age 22 after a four-year tour in the U.S.N. And, it was 50+ years ago. Graduated with honors with a B.Sc. Was #32 from the top in a high school graduating class of 34. I always recommend military service for young folks who are somewhat footloose and can't decide where to go in life.
Started reading some of those books in high school--early sixties, we had some outstanding teachers+Latin too--and managed to fit in some college classes that added to it, all on the way to a PhD-Geology. No regrets and there are some raised eyebrows when the conversation turns to the Classics and I can participate.
