We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I do think the situation is slightly different. Many of the worst offenders at campus speaking functions come from off-campus, and are not connected to the universities in any way. This of course leads to the question why, if this is so, schools do not insist on student ID's to attend these functions. As five people can stir up 25 people who can stir up a thousand, much of the problem even in unsympathetic venues, might be averted.
My suspicion is that many want these outsiders to come and be violent so that violence will occur but they can retain their self-image as peaceful loving people. I can't prove that. It may only be my prejudice.
