We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
That reminds me a little of how my wife said she used corn cobs in the outhouse at her uncle's farm in South Georgia. First you use a brown one, then a white one to see if you needed to use another brown one (they were NOT reused).
That also reminds me of bathrooms in oriental countries where the toilet is a hole in the floor. Toilet paper is used and then thrown in a trash can rather than in the toilet!
And the last one (geez! where do I let my mind wander?), my understanding is that people in rural Afghanistan today (and elsewhere in the Middle East?) wipe them selves with their left hand. They are taught to shake hands with their right hands for sanitary purposes.
Given that the Roman method was used 2000 years ago, I'd say they were pretty advanced.
...which brings on an interesting set of internal thoughts when you're an American working in a Muslim country, and many of the men you are introduced to offer their left hand when introduced. Yes, it means that. Some of them don't even grip your hand - they just offer it, like a stick.
