Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Peterson is right. The Liberal Arts have been degraded by neo-Marxist jibber-jabber, and few students find inspiration in that. It's deadening.

Yep. Liberal Arts / Humanities used to mean reading Socrates in Greek, Cicero in Latin, performing Calculus, having a deep understanding of Western history, literature, and art.

Now it's worthless crap and employers know it.

I agree that far too many in my discipline are as bad as advertised. I just want to represent those of us who teach History and Government but who aren't socialists or even leftists.

Quick....How many American Humanities departments even marked, much less celebrated the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta back in 2015?

There's your sign.

To major in the Liberal Arts/Humanities is to signal a lack of seriousness in becoming educated.

Who wants to be in a program with a bunch of whiny ass scolds. And seriously, go into any of those modern programs and you're showing a complete disregard for academic rigor; the answer is always right as long it's shaming, and accusatory, and stuffed with an incredible amount of faux indignation. And yes, as Indy points out, government is your only viable employer.
