Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The MSM news outlets are liars. Obama could do nothing wrong and Trump can do nothing right. Both of those positions have almost universally been wrong. I don't believe anything I rear from them until it's been confirmed after a few days. That has served me well.
Erickson wanted an openly corrupt, Stalinist, street seizure invalid to be president. He can rot in hell. I'll never forgive any of these nevertrump scum until they beg forgiveness for what they did. These people deserve to be shunned. They were never on our side. Only their own.
How long will it be before Bill Kristol and George Will are writing for the Daily Wire?
"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people." — Donald Trump
Dale: And?
It's obvious that Trump is conflating the vast majority of people who immigrate for productive work with criminal elements. Whenever people say "it's obvious," or "it just stands to reason," or "unquestionably," or the like, there is a good chance the opposite is true. People try to shut off argument with the social signal that you are going to be going against what all the right people believe. It's not worth your effort, and you will look like a fool. Fortunately, it's mostly liberals who are affected by that.
Notice how Zachriel smoothly feeds the lie that "some" is the opposite of "vast majority." It's part of what he just doesn't see about social pressure, and how it affects him before he writes to us. And how proofreading for strict truth is either absent or ignored. How are your Clinton Foundation and email defenses sounding now? Assistant Village Idiot: Notice how Zachriel smoothly feeds the lie that "some" is the opposite of "vast majority."
You can blindly quibble, but in the sentence, "some" implies less than "most". But it's the ambiguity that allows Trump to make the pretense he has not insulted the majority of immigrants. As President, his words have an inordinate impact, legal and cultural.

Make that "illegal immigrants". It is the illegal immigrants that have insulted the law of this country.

Trump didn't make that distinction, but keep in mind that immigration to the U.S. used to be open, then was encouraged even when technically illegal, especially for farm labor. Regularizing immigration is important, however, there is a strong element of nativism involved. For instance, you might advocate for much more open immigration, while still decrying illegal border crossings. Is that your position? Or do you want to further restrict immigration?

Zzzz: Trump didn't make that distinction, ...
Oh, he most definitely did, the MSM omitted it, and now y'all are lying again.

I know a lot of hispanic/Mexican people and they are good people, hard working, family people. But their rate of Hispanics committing crimes is twice that of white Americans. Interpret that as you will but it seems to back up Trump's point.

CATO Study (PDF): Legal and illegal immigrants are less likely to be incarcerated than natives.

QUOTE: Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and even then-President Obama along with their allies such as former Vice President Al Gore, Jeremiah Wright, and Obama’s “spiritual advisor” Jim Wallis referred to the Tea Party as radicals, anarchists, extremists, terrorists, unbiblical, legislative arsonists, committing jihad, have bombs strapped to their chests, committing extortion, taking hostages, want to “tear down the house our founders built,” want to “blow up the global economy,” are “holding a gun to the head of Americans,” and are a “2.0 upgrade of the lynch mobs.” Tit for tat, kiddiez. A familiar tactic of the guilty is to change the subject. The issue is that the news media intentionally stripped Trump's quote of the original context and attached their own. That is blatantly dishonest.
What Trump said in the past is irrelevant to the issue of a dishonest news media. mudbug: A familiar tactic of the guilty is to change the subject.
In this case, it is the same subject. mudbug: What Trump said in the past is irrelevant It's relevant because it shows a pattern of Trump using ambiguous language against immigrants. Make that illegal immigrants...there is a difference that even those as devious as yourself should confront.

We're hardly devious, but straightforward in our views. Trump doesn't always make clear distinctions. He apparently doesn't like brown immigrants, but has said he likes the light-colored ones from places like Norway.

Well, what should we expect? I've confronted Zs in the past about the Democrat's lie on their website:
[quote]For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights...[/qoute] (https://www.democrats.org/about/our-history) If they feel justified in defending that outright lie. Why shouldn't they feel justified in defending the MSM's lie? After all, they really are the same thing. mudbug: I've confronted Zs in the past about the Democrat's lie on their website
We've responded to your claim about the Democratic puff-piece, but it's off-topic here.
