We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
My late father had always suggested such an idea, believing that some teachers were simply more gifted than others and should be made available to every one through tapes and, later, visual materials. Fortunately, someone had the time and interest to get this going. Dad was thrilled and bought courses from them regularly.
I've enjoyed many of their courses. The lecturers are very uneven, though. Some are what you'd expect from an excellent university. Others are repetitive, disorganized, and slightly superficial. They have a good customer review system that can help you distinguish, but what I'd like more than anything is a chance to hear a sample of several minutes. It doesn't take long to figure out the quality of mind you'll encounter.
My library stocks many of these courses. As Texan99 said, they are uneven as to quality of production and skill of the presenter. The good ones, though, are really good and it's a pleasant way to learn.
