We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. A question about Trump


I was asked this weekend "In what ways are Trump's policies any different from Bill Clinton's, and how is Trump's character any more reprehensible than Bill Clinton's?"


I replied that their policies were similarly moderate, and that Trump was not a rapist.

Also, as far as I know, Trump didn't perjure himself about sex with a very junior employee in order to weaken a civil case that someone brought against him for sexual harassment of employees, all while championing women's rights.

Clinton was a lot smoother than Trump. He could talk a dog off a meat wagon. Ergo Slick Willie.

I recall Clinton as being a free trader. I don't recall him threatening other nations with tariffs.

I also recall Clinton raising taxes (largest tax increase in history IIRC) and wanting a carbon tax but the repubs checked him. Trump signed off on a tax cut.

Clinton was an advocate of regulations and control were as Trump has not, so far.

Clinton was a gun control advocate. Remember the assault weapons ban and all the dems that subsequently lost their seats? Trump has not shown an interest in controlling guns.

The question completely misses the only issue: Trump is not Clinton. Hillary is the monster who must be denied office. Nothing about Trump himself matters.

This is still the only point about ALL the recent complaints about Trump. It doesn’t matter what he does, how much he flip-flops or what his language and behaviour are. HE IS NOT HILLARY!

Also, Trump's foreign policies actually put America first. He's trying to limit 3rd-world immigration. He has been supportive of our Christian heritage and traditional culture. He has not sold us out to Wall Street, the Chinese or the Russians, while the Clintons certainly did all three.

Slick Willy has the morals of an alley cat. If you've followed Charles Ortel's unraveling of the multiple Clinton foundations, all of which appear to be illegal, you'd wonder why he didn't sell off the entire country during his reign. But wait, perhaps he was leaving the remains for his wife's dictatorship to auction off.

Trump isn’t responsible for anything like the Waco siege. It’s been 25 years on Thursday since the final attack on children and women, minorities and immigrants. No mention of it from anyone. Would a Republican with that record have been re-elected? And why did the ATF attack them in the first place? The only reason I’ve seen is suspicion of stockpiling illegal weapons, but I’ve not seen a mention of what they were.

There were supposedly children being abused, especially girls, sexually. It may have been true, but the evidence they were working from was scant. Certainly not enough to bring charges (though perhaps enough to launch an investigation). By extension, not enough for a death penalty. The Branch Davidians did the final damage to themsleves, but it never should have gotten to such a pass.

Of note: Janet Reno made her bones and came to Hillary Clinton's attention because of her prosecution of supposed pedophiles in FL, including those who were accused on the basis of recovered memory. That was the 80's fanatic witch hunt, which we now know to be absolutely without scientific merit.

The biggest difference between Bill and Donald is their list of women.

Bill's list looks like it was closing time and he was drunk and desperate. Not a single pick I would consider above average.

Donald's list looks like a combination of SI swimsuit edition, Playboy magazine and the Victoria's Secret catalog. The talent he's landed is simply amazing!
