Fatherless families in the US

Families without good father role models do not work well, statistically. Where are the good men? And why do women go along with this program if it works poorly for their kids?

One little correction. The father is Uncle Sam. He provides for the family and brings home the bacon and allows the mother to do whatever she wants to. Better than an old fashioned husband...

Uncle Sam isn't there for the kids. A blank check in the mail is no substitute for a loving Dad.

A mom without a husband, who has only a blank check in the mail is likely to wind up lonely, with some other male partner, temporary or otherwise, who doesn't have any interest in the mom's children. It's a recipe for disaster.

The Moynihan's paper came out in 1965. He was elected to the Senate in 1976.

Some time back CNN reported that mass shootings were done by shooters in which only the birth father was available to raise the child in one case out of 27 of the worst shootings. Add that to all the drugs that are fed to boys control "behavior" problems and its no wonder there are shooters. Give them a gun free zone, no punishment in school for misbehavior, and politically correct school administrators and law enforcement and its not hard to see a disaster in waiting. Really, who's surprised?

I would suggest that we are incorrectly interpreting the fact that children who are prescribed drugs to correct mental instabilities commit anti-social crimes because of those drugs. In fact it is far more reasonable and provable that the condition that precipitated the prescribing of those drugs is the problem and not the drugs. While you could make an argument that some drugs are over prescribed it would be a huge leap to conclude that the over prescribing of these drugs causes perfectly normal people to commit these violent and anti-social actions. The real take away here should be that we need better treatments for the mentally ill and better protections for the general population from the acts of the mentally ill.

That's a "cute" comment, but we all know why they don't stick around. In many of these cases the women are psychotic, use drugs, or take advantage of the biased, unfair laws that allow the women to push the father out of the children's life so they can move on to the next stud.

In the rest of the relationships the women have chosen men who were psychotic and/or use drugs.

There are a lot of people in the world who are not normal, who do stupid things and are very bad parents. These same traits tend to result in these people being "single" parents as no one with two or more brain cells will stay with them and the law won't allow men to get the children.

How do you fix it? Change the law so that justice is indeed blind and your gender does not give you an advantage. Treat both genders exactly the same under law both the punitive and beneficial laws.

This willful ignorance drives me nuts. Texan99 apparently has no clue how many responsible fathers are driven out of their children's lives by drama queens looking for 20-year payouts.
