We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Emergent Properties refer to outcomes that one cannot predict in advance in complex systems. Things to which reductionism does not apply.
Life is considered an emergent property of chemistry and physics. Consciousness is often considered an emergent property of biology.
If I provided anyone with a group of DNA molecules from any life form, could that person look at the sequence of nucleotides and accurately predict the outcome such genes? So is God an emergent property of Homo Sapiens or vice versa?
Emergent Properties.... A lot of today's "scientists" seem to spend most of their time thinking up new says to express old knowledge. Someone probably got a PhD for thinking up that one.
Of course it is deterministic. We only understand it at a very low level, is all, and don’t have anywhere near the computational ability to sort it out—yet. But a gene makes a protein, that’s all there is to it. Those proteins do something, sometimes we know exactly, sometimes we have no idea.
Every three base pairs of a DNA strand represent an amino acid, a series of amino acids put together in a particular order is a protein, and life is controlled by the chemistry of those proteins.
