Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The Academic Mob

The Academic Mob and Its Fatal Toll



 To be cast out and shunned as an academic is not only to lose your identity but also to lose your entire way of life, from your social circles, your sense of intellectual accomplishment, and even your ability to provide for yourself and your family. Once you are shunned from an academic institution there is little chance you will ever make it back in. The University system is too competitive for second chances.


Is Prof. Peterson the only brave and manly professor in the USA?  (Correction: in North America)

That's what's nice about being non-tenure track, and teaching in a STEM discipline. We're already cast out and shunned, but accepted as a necessary evil to teach all those "quant" courses that the socialist scientists can't be bothered to master.

I'd echo that. I taught science and math and ran afoul of the English department because I corrected, and demanded, proper spelling and grammar on papers.

Even worse, there are countless "regular" professors whose lives are being made miserable by the atmosphere at some colleges, not by students, but by other professors. I've been hearing about this for a couple of years from a couple of northeast US professors I know.

Yes. It is all very sad, as the bullies accuse the victim of being a bully. With such intense pressure from the mob it is no wonder there is homogeneity of thought on campus.

In the second example, the ignorance of one student in particular was mind boggling:

WTF!!???

What? The teacher is going to build a weapon as precise and complex as an H-Bomb in her garage???

And an H-Bomb would take out the entire city, not just the stadium. That target is much too small for a hydrogen bomb. When I was a kid every second grader knew that.

And this child is in college. Holy sh*t.

And the FBI took the allegations seriously? Time is heavy on the hands of the FBI if they are bothering with such fantastic allegations.

There is some similarity to the academic hatred of Trump in this story. The target of "mobbing" in academia pays attention to the bullies. He doesn't. It drives them crazy,

No problem. Get a life. My late cousin was a long-time prof at a well known U. in Nebraska. Got fed up with academia in the '70s, bought an 18-wheeler and went on the road. Worked the road for 30 years until he became terminally ill about 10 years ago. Wore out three or four big rigs.
