We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

 The dominant strategy of the outsiders is to focus on the negative, exposing and denouncing the failures, imperfections, and corruption of the insiders. On the left, this means heaping blame on the institutions of capitalism and free markets. On the right, this means heaping blame on the institutions of government. Neither side will propose, much less implement, an effective reform agenda.

Depends on how you define "effective reform agenda" does it not?

The dems have indeed tried to reform capitalism over the years, often with the willing help of repubs. The Regulatory State is the result. OSHA, EPA, EEOC, Dodd-Frank, Sarb-Ox, just to name a few were all attempts to improve capitalism by reining in its undesirable elements.

Reforming Government OTOH is a much more difficult task. There has never been enough electoral and judicial support to slow the Deep State juggernaut. The votes have never been there to reform Government and I doubt there ever will.

Arnold isn't even close. The Chamber of Commerce has been funding plenty of democrats to get the globalist version of "free trade" which is neither free nor fair. Trumps first moves were to kill the new international trade act, get renegotiation authority for nafta and add penalties to trade dumping from Canada, China, and Mexico. This is trade that will favor Americans and not necessarily American corporatists. Observe his recent comment of China taking advantage of trade with US. And Trump dealing with government. He may actually become the first president to shrink the non-military government.
