We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I would like to be sympathetic to deduction of the interest on student loans but I am not. Why student loans and not auto loans or credit card loans?
As a point of interest I am opposed to the government being involved in student loans. I'm not sure they were ever a good idea for the student, the lender, the taxpayer or the government. I fully expect that some day soon we will have a Democrat congress and president and they will decide to pay off all the student loans at the taxpayers expense. Probably right after they give amnesty to everyone here illegally and make the taxpayers pay to support them as well.
End student loans...it will get rid of the deadwood in academia and the student body. In addition to taxing endowments they should also tax foundation money that has become nothing more than free lobbying money to acquire more tax money and change political directions.
Yes. Great idea. Let tuitions come down to where they would have been without the government programs letting them rise at twice the inflation rate for decades. Anyone who steps foot on college campuses these days are appalled at the spending - new dorms, new libraries, Olympic-quality sports facilities, sushi bars and Starbucks. Its crazy.
