Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Math is all about whiteness


Not from The Onion: She also worries that evaluations of math skills can perpetuate discrimination against minorities, especially if they do worse than their white counterparts.


Meanwhile no worries about Asians and people from India doing better, overall, than those white kids. I noted that she is not a Math Prof, but a Math Education Prof.  But still...

A "math EDUCATION prof." Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, teach HOW to teach.

I think what bothers me most about this kind of thing is she seems clueless about her apparent cluelessness. She really believes this and believes it is a vast white privileged conspiracy. Higher education is so doomed.

If evaluation of math skills show that math skills are lower, then more education is needed. Possibly, better teachers are needed.
