Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

From your lips to God's ears, James Madison.

While the "frog in a pot of water" trope is provably bogus, we are at risk of becoming like Europe or Canada, where governments control free speech and other fundamental rights.

As usual, Madison was right. He didn't come up with the Constitution because it just seemed like a good idea. He studied previous attempts at governing arrived at probably the best attempt at government that dignifies the individual. Unfortunately, its best feature is also its weakest point because they are susceptible to ambitious and corrupt people who achieve their power by convincing enough people their dignity comes from them rather than themselves.

Political thugs have made marches through the institutions for millennia...nothing new there and unlikely to change. Those being marched over lost the ability to care enough to put a stop to it.
