We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I have been a fan of Haidt for years. An additional bit of praise: he was not only willing to question his assumptions at one point in time, he is able to do it on an ongoing basis. He developed a very elegant theory of how different political persuasions understand morality, but in the face of evidence that did not quite fit, was able to abandon parts of it and develop others.
That's just plain rare.

This gets crazy. There is another blog I follow (for reasons other than politics) where the blogger, an old school moderate lefty , is obviously becoming very disenchanted, observing that you need to go to the conservative press to see much defense of free speech.
