Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Monday, May 8. 2017Macron Wins, Americans Officially IdiotsI have seen a number of articles this morning about Macron's win. At least two were about how France is better than Britain and/or the US. However much satire is involved, and certainly Andy Borowitz believes himself to be a satirist, there is one problem with the concept (which Borowitz fervently believes is true) being promoted. That problem is Obama. After all, both four and eight years ago, the US was so darn progressive and ahead of the curve. In such a short period of time, we've become mind-numbingly idiotic, to believe the press. This only happens when a non-Democrat is elected (I hesitate to say Republican because I really don't consider Trump a Republican in any traditional sense). Remember when Bush was elected, and re-elected? We were stupid then, as well. Whether Macron is good for France or not remains to be seen, and is of little interest because it's France. They've hitched their wagon to losing causes far too many times to trust their instincts (for clarity, since Progressives have a problem with it, this statement was satire). For now, the Left is hailing his victory as the Waterloo of far-right politics. That's hard to support, since Macron is hardly a darling of the Left. Besides, even many policies which have been deemed 'far-right' could just as easily be labeled Leftist (traditionally, anti-immigration, closed-border, and protectionist views have been domains of the Left. It is only recently that they've been furiously adopted by the Right). Regardless of what Macron's election leads to, it's hardly logical to assume France's election means anything at all. A glorified popularity contest, which is all elections are, does not indicate any kind of collective intelligence. Mainly because collective intelligence is usually an oxymoron. Even in cases where it may not be an oxymoron, it's a meaningless term when applied to an election. The agenda is preset. We have no idea what the 'intelligent' choice is, only what our own personal choices may be. These aggregated personal choices don't provide insight to any kind of intelligence. A vote for Macron by someone who wanted to see their taxes cut, but opposes Macron's stance on immigration has no special intelligence over the person who supported his stance on immigration but cared little for taxes. All we can definitively say is that more people preferred Macron over Le Pen, though we can't definitively say why. We're certainly no more capable of saying why people preferred Trump over Clinton (avoiding the obvious and irrelevant discussion over the fact he lost the popular vote - after all, if the popular vote is all that mattered, my belief is he'd have won that because his strategy would have changed). The point is, these discussions about national intelligence, based on electoral outcomes, are not only one-sided favoring Leftists, they are misguided and give more power to the supposedly 'ignorant' bloc. Andy Borowitz is creating more likely voters for his opposition, simply because his use of repulsive caricatures alienates anyone he'd hope to attract to his side, and causes many others to feel he's a repulsive intellect to begin with. Unless you're 100% sold on the idea of Progressives being correct, Borowitz is a boor. That is the echo-chamber. That is why the Left is increasingly tone-deaf. That is why, barring massive political disaster revolving around Trump and the Republicans, the Democrats are doomed. What we do know, from history, is that when parties have the opportunity to do things properly, you can almost count on them to screw the whole thing up. The Republicans are doing their level best to accommodate history and let the Democrats off the hook. Trackbacks

Jimmy Carter is still the happiest man in the world that Obama was elected.
Now he knows that he will not be considered the worst president in modern times... Obama will be... as Trump undoes what little Barry O did. Was listening to some Elvis Costello yesterday and I was struck by how closely the lyrics to "Radio Radio" match my current feelings about the mainstream media.
It's like they really, truly cannot process the fact that they are not completely in charge of 'the narrative' anymore. From Christane Amanpour saying without a trace of irony that Trump "did an end run around the media" in order to win to the Washington Post's self-indulgent new motto of "democracy dies in darkness" people working in journalism seem to be refusing to understand that due to technology the game has changed. They no longer have the final say. Mark Twain once remarked about the press that one should never pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel. Political blogs and Twitter now allow people without barrels of ink to communicate their point of view, which most of us consider to be a good thing. The Washington Post, CNN, the New York Times, NBC News, etc. all seem to be in major denial. "...They say you better listen to the voice of reason But they don't give you any choice 'cause they think that it's treason So you had better do as you are told You better listen to the radio I wanna bite the hand that feeds me I wanna bite that hand so badly I want to make them wish they'd never seen me Some of my friends sit around every evening And they worry about the times ahead But everybody else is overwhelmed by indifference And the promise of an early bed You either shut up or get cut up; they don't wanna hear about it It's only inches on the reel-to-reel And the radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools Tryin' to anesthetize the way that you feel Radio is a sound salvation Radio is cleaning up the nation They say you better listen to the voice of reason But they don't give you any choice 'cause they think that it's treason So you had better do as you are told You better listen to the radio..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOWwN3T2xkc Great song...
Here's the Elvis Costello song that should have been the cautionary tale for the French after they chose to marry themselves to a low-wattage noid like Hollande (who had a 4% approval rating, last I checked.) Macron dropped out of Hollande's administration to run, so he'll be suspiciously reminiscent of the French dog's breakfast... The French are nothing if not recidivist masochists. Chewing Gum With their cardboard hands by their sides, here's a naked man and lady And they're yours to cut out and keep So you can dress them up maybe They don't know just who they are, or who they're supposed to be You can make them happy or sad Or assume their identity So here they are in the departure lounge It's the "Gateway to the East" She is just another mail-order bride She doesn't know he's a kinky beast So he gives her a picture of Maradona and child She wants to "roll and rock" As he spills his beer over her, bumps and he grinds, as he repeats "Bang-Cock" [Chorus:] There must be something that is better than this It starts with a slap and ends up with a kiss Begins with you bawling and it ends up in tears Oh my little one, take that chewing gum out of your ears She might as well be in the jungle She might as well be on the moon He's away on a business trip, in Dusseldorf [sic], but she's becoming immune To the lack of glamour and danger in a West- German city today The nearest she comes to the "Dynasty" he promised her Is a Chinese takeaway [Chorus] Though he only taught her three little words, it doesn't matter if they're dirty or clean He can only control what they look like He can never possess what they mean Now he wants to whisper in her ear All the shrinking nothingness But something always comes between them, I wonder if you can guess This might be the only EC song with a credible Tuba part... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh-tbg_0ZIY Seeing as how Macron has a plan for the islamisization of France
http://diversitymachtfrei.blogspot.com/2017/05/macron-leaks-contain-secret-plans-for.html I really don't understand the hyperbole of those who hyperventilate over anti-Macron voices. (of course, one can NEVER expect reason/logic/sanity-in-general from the Left...) Then again, silencing ANY opposition is a part of the Left's Standard Operating Procedure. When you understand that what we are seeing in Europe is a slow motion invasion it will change everything that you see from that time forward. France, Germany, Italy and Spain will become a bloody battlefield of WW III. Not the nuclear war of the movies and books but an invasion of committed ideological fanatics who must and will control everything before they are satisfied. It will be a war of attrition until it becomes out of hand and uncontrollable and then it will become a dirty, cruel genocidal civil war. These "immigrants" did not go there to assimilate and they will not give in, give up or go home. Europe's leaders have committed their citizens to a hell, slowly at first and then a fatal quickening. It could be stopped; it could be reversed. It won't be...

The reason there is such violent reactionary forces in some of the Muslim world is because of the very power of Western culture, which is undermining their traditional mores and ways. Over time, Muslims will be merged into a greater culture, giving and receiving aspects of both heritages. |
