We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
America did play the major role but to ignore the vital contributions of other nations including Australia and New Zeland is to deny history. Imperial Japan wanted to conquer both of those nations.
apart from being grammatically nonsense, your grossly and stupidly ignorant post explains the Ugly American image like none other I've seen on this forum. no American present then would have made your idiotic statement.
China: over 200,000 killed each month, averaged over the war.

Absolutely right. Australia and China had this thing sewed up and didn't need America's meddling. No wonder you are called 'ugly American'. And shame on you for even noticing that America had something to do with the victory when we all know it was the UN. Shame!
Interesting side story. A friend of mine's father was an admiral during WWII. He was not very tall - about 5'6" or so. He'd played a major role in the war, was well known and fully expected to be aboard for the signing of the surrender.
Except he was told he wasn't attending. Not even allowed to be near Japan. The generals and admirals decided that they wanted to show an imposing image to the Japanese, where were generally shorter than us, and tower over them. So he and many others who expected to attend were not allowed to simply because of their height.
An interesting bit of PR and marketing by our military, and a story I hadn't heard until their family shared it with us several years ago (the one thing he did get were a number of personal pictures with MacArthur, Nimitz, Halsey, and some copies of various signed documents, all of which adorn my friend's house).
