We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Many American towns and Cities have Greek names.
These towns and cities were founded during the "Greek Revival Period" (about 1710 to 1840)
This was a time in Europe when everyone was smitten with Greek Culture. This fad crossed the ocean. The Colonists, soon to be Americans, were also inspired by Greek Democracy and therefore named these towns in honor of that. There was also an intention to build universities in some of these towns and they wanted classic sounding names. Examples of this are found throughout the states including Athens, Philadelphia. Marathon, Crete, Sparta, Demopolis, Ithaca, Olympia, Smyrna,
Alexandria, and Troy, Once this fad caught on, other neighboring villages followed suit.
