We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I think we would all (except university administrators and professors) would be better off if most universities were shut down. The problem is deciding which ones to shut down (I have my own suggestions). Perhaps the better option is to eliminate ALL federal aid/subsidies so that buyers (students) fully consider whether the product (education) they are buying is worth the priced time they are paying. In doing so, the equilibrium price will return to its previous (inflation adjusted) levels making college cheaper - perhaps much cheaper as the quality of today's product is vastly inferior to that of 50 years ago.
If the reports are to be believed, many Millennial students (Born after 1980) on college campuses have become “infected” with the mental contagion of emotional thinking or pathological thinking ... As a practicing psychologist, I’m surprised and shocked by the scale of this problem ...
This bad and pathological thinking has resulted in the coining of expressions like “microaggressions” and “trigger- warnings.” If I have my facts straight, I’m inclined to propose the diagnosis of pseudocultural paranoia with anger. ... Let’s face it! Something is seriously wrong."
