Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

College for all

The Chronicle Supports the Case Against College for All


The higher ed marketing machine has done a good job for its booming industry over the past 50 years,  but it has gotten ridiculous. A college degree means nothing. Anybody who wants to can now cheat, drink, and bs their way to the piece of paper as long as they can find a way to come up with the cash.


Let's face it. If you can't or won't handle Calc. and Aristotle, you can't use it. Get a job and learn something real. And read books.

The fact is the value of a college degree has been largely devalued by political correctness. At many schoolos, and especially the "elite" schools, it has meant a system of ideological indoctrination rather than any sort of meaningful learning.

Government made IQ testing illegal as a qualifier for getting a job. Employers and government then used a college degree as a qualifier. Thus we had a rush to develop "studies" programs that anyone with any opinion could pass. They are fact free degrees and the reason that 60% of black college graduates are employed by government.

Most importantly a college degree is quite often used by the democrats as a tracking device to help reward or punish an individual according to their political ideologies. Have you ever looked into those "leadership for women" classes? In every school those classes are only open to a few select young gals. These gals have been tagged since elementary school and in collaboration with their obedient deserving female instructors..their obedient deserving mothers keep them on track. Even in state colleges those "leadership" classes are only open to few pre approved candidates moving up and into government service. This has been going on for a long time (30 years?)
