We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

He seems like the kind of guy you would love to have an everyday conversation with, toss back some beer or bourbon, then work with him to replace your septic system. In no particular order.
He responds to fan mail fairly regularly, and I really enjoyed his post today:

Mike Rowe and Mike Holmes are heroes. I can't watch Mike Holmes on TV anymore but he is still great.
NYT: The modern man won’t blow 10 minutes of his life looking for the best parking spot. He finds a reasonable one and puts his car between the lines.
MR: A Man’s Man knows it’s wiser to park closer to the exit than the entrance.
A: Lol - then what am I if I've figured that an ellipse with the doors at the foci is the set of parking spaces of equal walking distance, and look for spots within the ellipse touching the nearest space I see open?
"Hopeless" perhaps. x^D
B: You can park in New York? In ten minutes?! How is that possible?
I my self uses his parking fairy to get me a spot in the lot.
little Longfellow there at the last.
the Mike Rowe Works foundation is an excellent example of what he is about.
as I understand it, the money he raises for this foundation is earmarked on an individual level for those young folks who get out and WORK, and need help with training / technical school tuition and the like.
Loved this. However, it came dangerously close to some Chuck Norris jokes.
