We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Recall that it just took one fierce, unknown feminist Harvard faculty member to eject the distinguished Larry Summers from the presidency of Harvard by supposedly having a Victorian-era fainting spell.
It seems to be a tactic which works. I agree that people must push back.
I was in college in the early 1960s and the college administrators were always caving in to the student demonstrators. We used to joke there was nothing more craven and cowardly than a college president. Nothing has changed in 50 years.
I don't see me voting from Trump in a primary, but just as with Perot in 1992, he's saying what needs to be said (albeit not as artfully as he might) and what nobody else is willing to say. I doubt Trump will get far in the primaries but he's showing there is fertile ground for somebody who picks up this message and articulates it well. Hopefully this will not be one of those issues that gets forgotten when somebody (demoncrats) distract voters with some shiny object.
I think that honest people of good conscience can be forgiven for believng that it was always about "equality and the right to marry". Or for believing that if we just gave 3 million illegals amnesty that the Democrats would actually compromise and agree to secure the borders. At some point in the future it will be more clear to these good people that they were played, tricked, snookered and screwed with. This was never about equality it was about power. This was never about "fixing" the immigration system it was about keeping it dysfuntional so that some could gain power.
Someday in the future you will see our government subsidized colleges create quota's for illegal and legal aliens and your taxes will go up to pay for it while simultaneously your children will be denied opportunities because they are not in the "protected" group. Oh snap!! We already have that. community colleges, state colleges and private colleges (who still suck off the government teat) already have massive set asides for illegals and dreamers and refugees. Your child may have great grades and aced the exams while the non-English speaking student who pushes them aside may struggle to pass basic classes. No matter the colleges will continue to get massive subsidies from government (your taxes) while denying your children entrance because of their race.
And as the country continues to spiral into an economic disaster and shrinking middle class what will you do???
You will vote for the party that your father voted for because... well, just because.
