We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Napolitano: What if the government fears freedom? What if Bush and Obama have been wrong about the priority of their constitutional duties as president?
Don't all governments fear freedom? Power, unlike money or sex, is a zero-sum game.
So true. Any freedoms the individual believes he has are obstacles to those employed in government. They don't like that and they won't put up with it.
They want a tidy world. One which they monitor, notice any flaws, and then issue corrective orders which are always obeyed.
In all my work on where the education 'reforms' are taking us, the phrase 'fostering faithful followers' keeps coming to mind.
It gets obscured in all the mind arson and cultivation of desired values, beliefs, and dispositions for 'citizenship,' but it is all about making sure few have the knowledge and wherewithal to defy the herd as governments at all levels decide it is their right and obligation to steer societies and economies.
Trumpeted in the name of social justice and international competition, it will be a mutual looting society until it is broadly recognized.
They fear who we are now, but not the citizens they are creating for twn years from now.
"What the Republican Party doesn’t grasp is that Obama is not an outlier – he is the fulfillment of what his backers want. On every assertion of extra-constitutional executive authority, the Democratic Party is on board with what the president is doing. And that is the real danger for the future."
