Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

More on credentialing


We all understand many of the reasons for credential inflation. Most of it is quite absurd.


Here's Another Reason for Credential Inflation:



 Employers keep ratcheting up their educational credential demands to sift out people who, on the basis of their lower credential levels are presumably less competent and trainable. It’s not just the business sector that contributes to credential inflation — so does government.

As I explain in my book Credentialed to Destroy: How and Why Education Became a Weapon the shift in K-12 education and now higher ed away from content to Competency is also tied to the creation by governments all over the world of Qualifications Frameworks. You can actually download them for, say, South Africa, the UK, or Australia.

The US is transitioning to this system by function if not by official name to prevent someone like me from linking it to prove my point. Thats our government always looking out for ways to make things more expensive and complicated.

The days of yore, shared many classes with State Troopers, who had federal grants because even traffic cops should have a degree in Criminal Justice (a favorite major of many scholarship athletes too).
