We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
They’re far outpacing Americans, particularly on the quantitative section of the test. Many B-school admissions officers say that a score on the quantitative section is the best predictor of success in an MBA program.
One result of these disparities is that Americans’ percentile rankings have dropped, even though their raw scores have remained constant in recent years. With Asia-Pacific students applying to and attending American business schools in large numbers, some schools complained to the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), which administers the GMAT. As the WSJ put it, schools “don’t want to become factories for high-scoring test-takers from abroad.”
I don't doubt that is true. But it begs the question. Should American colleges be kicking American students to the curb in favor of accepting foriegn students?
Anyone with children and/or grandchildren knows that children must be challenged and if everything is given to them that many of them will simply choose not to rise to the challenge. I doubt that America lacks enough geniuses to fill our colleges. I doubt that our geniuses are incapable or simply not intelligent enough to excel. I don't doubt that many Asians are hungrier for a chance in an American college but is that reason enough to reject qualified American students in favor of qualified Asian students?
Perhaps the question is what is the mission of American colleges? Is their mission to educate Americans or is it to educate Asians and other non-Americans? In my opinion all American colleges which accept any taxpayer money (to include any tax exemptions) at all should be required to accept any and all qualified American students before they can accept any foriegn students.
