We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Back in the Dark Ages (mid '40s, during WW2) our backward HS had a work-study program. If you had a job in certain trades, you could go to school 1/2 day and work 1/2 day after the freshman year. I went to school 8:00-11:00 AM and worked 2:00-5:00PM for three years. Hurt my educational prospects you say? Ended up with three hard masters degrees by age 45. Hurt my economic opportunities you say? Been living very comfortably on retirement income since 2000. (Of course, I might have retired a multi-billionaire if I hadn't squandered my HS years on work.)
I used to sit all day in high school, and it was not detrimental to my education. She admitted that she is used to standing all day (which takes some getting used to and probably was tiring when she first started teaching). Maybe the problem is the overly-long periods. We used to have six classes a day that were about an hour long each (approx.). I think the problem now is that they have decided at many school districts that you need to extend classes to more than 1.5 hours in order to get in 'more instruction.'
Very dumb idea. I have been told by my children that the end of the period is usually used for homework and 'asking questions,' and if you have finished all your homework and have 'nothing to do,' you are allowed to take out your cell phone and text.
This tells me time is being wasted in these overly long class periods. Go back to shorter periods, all the same subjects every day. Kids will be moving between classes every hour and will be more alert.
May I also point out that I know plenty of people who are 'movers' and don't like to sit still. And there are also more sedentary-type people who don't like a lot of moving around. I am guessing this teacher is a 'mover' who likes to be on the go.

I don't like 90 minute classes for high school or middle school students. Universities have 50 and 75 minute classes with a student population that is much more able to pay attention and settle down than high school or middle school students.
As an old fogy, I find that my attention span is kaput by 90 minutes.
We had more classes than that during the day, and had phys ed everday also. A lot more getting up and walking around, exercise in the course of a day. Four classes a day I don't think I could have avoided boredom/sleeping.
