We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Which is why providing a fundamental skills education was a worthwhile endeavor. That way, if you wanted to learn something, you could look it up and read about it. Instead, people prefer being fed a bunch of baseless propaganda. Reading and research skills, not so much.
One merely needs to observe the prevalance and popularity of so much basic foolishness. Witchcraft, global warming, animal rights, organic food, save the whales, polar bears and a thousand other primitive supersitions.
My personal favorites are the widely disseminated ancient alien theories and the chem trails conspiracy. Never mind that the ancient aliens junk was debunked back in the 70's and never mind that nobody ever collected any chemicals from the supposed spray program.
I suppose when you begin with a frame of reference that is filled with garbage, anything goes.
