14,000 pages and counting

Last week we had a couple of posts about the administrative state and its extra-legal, unconstitutional power.

Besides Obamacare (20,000 pages of federal regs), we now have Dodd-Frank regulations (14,000 pages and counting). It's anticipated that it will be years before all of the Dodd-Frank regs are fleshed out. If ever.

Who can know or understand all of this crap? All people know is that you can get in trouble if you do not. Insane, but it keeps lawyers and lobbyists employed.

Was it here I read a lot of American companies are now moving their headquarters out of the United States?

They do some sort of merger with a corporation in another foreign company where it looks like it is still a U.S. corporation, but the surviving entity is actually out of the U.S. A major reason is escaping from punitive corporate income tax (highest in the industrial world), but I have to imagine stuff like this plays a part as well.

This is how an oligarchy gets established. Those that are in power don't actually have to read the bill before passing it. And they further make themselves exempt from the law. (Censure in the House instead of criminal prosecution, oh my!) Those who do read the law and point out conflicts or other issues are told that those issues can be resolved later by the courts. The courts then interpret the law and say "gee, that sucks, you guys are stuck with a crappy law"... And the bill, and the oligarchical politicians that voted for the law in the first place.

You forgot tax regulations. It is almost impossible for the average person to know and understand his risk of a mistake. I just tried to parse a 990 and an 1120. What a joke.

Anyone who has to deal with any Government Agency to any extent already knows that we are at the mercy of bureaucrats making all the rules to suit their purposes, not a citizen's. The legislature has seen fit to allow these agencies to write what are the equivalent of laws instead of doing their jobs to write the laws.
