We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
At almost every level, Asian Americans in the aggregate have surpassed the education outcomes of other large racial groups.
so what? stop whining. you live in a country with an insane number of opportunities for getting ahead in the galaxy, whether its State U or a trade school. or even the Marines.
if this is so and the Ornamentals are ahead, the only question worth asking isn't "why", its "what's next", meaning, specifically, if someone's outperforming me or my kid, what do I/we do about making sure me or kid runs him down and puts him in a ditch does better?
no one here is a "racial group", so, if you feel accomplishment in what a "racial group" does as a whole, or are distressed about what the group isn't doing, you're deluding yourself and probably getting in your own way, especially if you're trying to live vicariously through the rise or fall of a group or even another person.
Here's how I got rich ur, well off. I took a typing class in high school. That's it. I was raised in an orphan home and they cut me loose when I turned 18. I had no money and so I joined the Marines. I was assigned to a combat unit (6th Marines) but when they discovered I could type they sent me to MCB Camp Lejeune as a company clerk then to MIS is as an IBM computer operator. I learned to program computers there and when I was discharged I eventually got various jobs ending up as a Systems Engineer for Hewlett Packard. I learned to save and invest and now I'm sitting on my ssa drinking wine and Dickle. All that because I learned how to type.
Know what you mean. Touch typing, no one younger than 50 knows what that is anymore. I took it as that's where the girls were, only guy in my class of 35 or so. Marines too, but no programming, but it stood me well, and has my entire life.
6th Marines... that must have been when Christ was a Corporal. :)
Back in the day, there was serious consternation when a Grade 2 teacher decided to limit the number of "A's" given out. This was just not what some parents expected: as one told me, and this is close to the original quote: It's all right for white students to get lower marks, but Chinese students must get A's.
Our ways diverged after elementary school. Have often wondered how the Chinese students made out in later years. Our 'lesser' offsprings have done very well, thank you. We had standards, but weren't tiger parents; the message was that all offsprings were expected to graduate from Grade 12 and go on to post-secondary education of some sort. Further, they had to begin saving because they were expected to contribute to the cost of said education. It worked: all did.
The June report in the Democrat & Chronicle featured interviews with public officials and immigrants who gave details of the unrelenting racial violence visited upon recent immigrants from Nepal and Burma, all by black people in Rochester.
The former police chief, James Sheppard, who is black, told the Democrat & Chronicle the immigrants will “eventually acclimate” to their new “harsh environment.”
