We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Again, we come to the same crossroads, perhaps by now it is only a roundabout ;-)
If you want to clean up academia and restore a high level of intellectual challenge to the classroom, then you must, every attorney in the country, MUST be willing to confront their local institution when they find fraud, or any other criminal activity. If we cannot get our local attorneys to challenge their local institution then there is no enforcement of ethics, of quality or even federal law. The Dept. of Education will NOT confront these issues anymore. The best place to start is to organize a law centre, or law firm--a collective of people such as yourself, who will do this work. Don't look to employment attorneys (they look to the democratic party for revenue). Don't look to contract attorneys (their local university is to well connected to the local corporate sponsors). But, rather it must be something like The Innocence Project. A place where ethical faculty can find support and some protection.
Finally, it must be done: we the people and yourself in the lead must clearly explain the links from one state to the next, the processes, and the groups using these tactics to re-write the law in all states. A clear picture of the whole system that has been put in place, must be presented to the average American, so she/he can understand the level of assault we are under. Pain the whole picture clearly; itemize the events, the collective strategies, etc.
This is what happens when the government does the nation's parenting. Government drones instruct the children in the contemporary batch of political propaganda rather than the basic skills. This happens from kindergarten. The children's reading skills suffer from non-use. When reading becomes optional, writing is difficult because disciplined, organized, logical thinking is never learned. When writing is difficult, kids don't practice it. When the kids don't practice it, they don't learn how to do it. When kids don't learn how to do it, they grow up to be ignorant, unskilled 'teachers'. When they grow up to be ignorant, unskilled teachers, there is no way on God's green earth that the higher education system can rely on getting more students pre-equipped with the basic skills. What did I miss?
