It's basically government day care, isn't it? Progressives relentlessly pursue their cradle-to-grave programs to turn all Americans into wards of the State (or serfs - we're already serfs, given the % of our labor we have generously voted to offer to our morally- and intellectually-superior Lords).

We wonder why we serfs do this. Perhaps we have so many immigrants with serf and slave heritages that they are comfortable with it or comforted by it, but not even Marx would have imagined Democratic Feudalism.

Given that some 50 years of research have failed to show any academic gains from the Head Start program this will undoubtedly amount to not much more than relatively dependable, very expensive baby-sitting.

To separate children from families and mothers to be raised communally in a factory-like setting has long been a Leftist goal.

The fact is it gives more power to the teachers' unions, since the preschools teachers and staff will no doubt be required to be union.

All the textbook publishing/testing companies are gearing up for the passage of a pre-Head Start bill, so they can bring in the bucks testing toddlers (and earlier), so they then can prescribe "appropriate" programs to make them among our great uneducated drones who will fall for a rewritten history and not be able to add up the individual debt they've inherited.

Many of the same arguments for universal preschool that are being made today, were made for universal kindergarten at one time. Communal childraising is a longtime goal of the left. Well articulated by Marx and Engels.
