We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I hope parents aren't paying hard-earned money for this baloney. I have often advised parents here to monitor what their kids are spending your money on, and to have rules about what one is willing to pay for.
No wonder, they know nothing of "hubris", depicted for us in the Greek cannon.
I love Harold Bloom's crusade against irrelevant post modern muck but even he didn't get any traction. " These critics, whom Bloom has memorably called the School of Resentment, have gained such strength that they have colored, even infected, writers whose careers have started since the Resentment began. So what we are seeing is criticism that changes literature for the worse and, as Bloom laments, contributes to the idiot-ization of the entire world. "
There is some measure of hope: the utter ineffectiveness of schools. American schools once taught liberty and science, and both have been in decline for decades. Soviet schools once taught Communism. Chinese schools—when they were open—once taught Maoism. All futile.
