We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Which is why our Legislature immunized the State, the public school system (which here is run by the State) and the State's juvenile detention system at the same time it lifted the statute of limitations bar for sexual abuse claims against all others (aimed at the Roman Catholic Church, of course). Testimony that they were in fact nullifying the claims of a substantial majority of abused children at the same time they were taking credit for re-opening the priest abuse cases was lost on them.
Much much worse than the 8 to 10 times worse than the Catholic Church as reported in the article above. Try AT LEAST 100 times worse.
In a CBS News report dated September 22, 2009, Hofstra University researcher Charol Shakeshaft said, ""[T]hink the Catholic Church has a problem? The physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests."
More recently, February 8, 2012, liberal Slate (yes that Slate) reported, "[N]ationwide, 4.5 million students currently in grades K-12 have suffered some form of sexual abuse by an educator, and more than 3 million have experienced sexual touching or assault."
I hate this as I have a sister and B-N-L who are wonderful hard working caring teachers among many others I know.
