We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

With regard to dust emissions from fracking sand mines..... by far and away the largest source of silica dust in the US that poses a risk for development of silicosis is......wait for it.......gravel roads. Yes, that's right, the gravel road you drive home on and the gravel lane to your rural house poses a risk which is many orders of magnitude greater than the sand mine a couple miles away. You won't be hearing that inconvenient truth from the Ecoloons.
BD just committed what's usually viewed as the worst atrocity in the world of blogdom:
He repeated a link.
"California Prison Academy: Better Than a Harvard Degree"
(gasp!) The original post, linking to the same article, is here, with my follow-up a few days later here.
However, this being a "kindler, gentler nation" (I believe President Obama said that in his first State of the Union address), I recommend that we exercise the height of restraint and not demand stiff penalties or a public flogging for his heinous act. That's just the way we are.
By the way, if you'd like to make lots of money and are thinking of heading out to the Golden State, be sure to check out my link above first. As Bird Dog helped re-verify, there are some really great jobs out there!
As for this goofiness:
"Climate Change Battle Space Prep"
James Taranto did a pretty good job dismantling the biggest of his egregious lies yesterday, with the second lie debunked here.
Climate change prep- yahoo ran three days of op/ed pieces from Live Science, re: climate change. They scaled the pieces from an intern, up to a scientist from the Union of Concerned Scientists (which is rare for UCS).
All were fraught with errors, but the latter was classic. It was simply a piece about all the misinformation being spread, and how it was the same people who worked w/ tobacco companies.
Of course the irony and hypocricy was epic. But it shows that they've regrouped and are coming on w/ a strategy, teaming w/ media. And as Aristotle pointed out, they are using rhetoric when logic fails them.
Prison Guard Pensions: Yeah, but California! Already in the hole, getting worse, and in 20 years, who knows how bad it will be. Who wants to trust the Gov and the Dem Legislature? Really? That many? I pity da fools.
Barry the Lame? Likely, as he's doing poorly now. Next year we'll see if any Dems want to run with him or have him campaign for them (not that he's likely to).
Anti-Semites on PBS show about Mohammed? Well, they should be, as part and parcel of current Muzzie thinking and policy.
UPS: Part of holding down costs is preparing for the incresed costs of O-care. NYT, of course, won't say that.
