Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

It seems intuitive to the point of redundant to say that women are not the same as men and America is not a racist hellhole. I knew all this as a kid and I have finally relearned it as an adult. "More on the coming global cooling"
QUOTE: “The sun’s current maximum activity period is very late and very weak, leading to speculation that the sunspot cycle itself could be shutting down..." So, lemme get this straight. If I mock and ridicule an AGW alarmist for portraying the average denier as some moron who thinks "the sun will cool back down and everything will work out fine in the end.", as I did here, then that's perfectly understandable. But let a denier claim that sunspot activity might actually be shutting down... and that's perfectly reasonable? Okay. Just checking. "More on the coming global cooling"
Yeah, but these guys are astrophysicists, and study solar dynamics. They're not climate scientists. So they don't count. Bill O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo is superlative!

Because the Muslim Brotherhood needs her to stay" http://wyblog.us/blog/democrats/why-huma-abedin-stays.html http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/354351/huma-unmentionables-andrew-c-mccarthy Could it be she's a Tammy Wynette fan or she learned from her patron that power is more important than zipper failures?
The influence of the Sun has been extensively studied by climate scientists. Indeed, solar activity is important to understanding climate change over Earth’s history. However, it is not sufficient to explain the warming over the last century. Anthropogenic forcing is overwhelming the natural signal.

I ... I ... just keep wondering, if the truth is what Rush Holt says it is, why on earth did he keep his mouth shut while IPCC was telling all those credibility destroying * lies ? I mean, it is a matter of life and death, right? Why would the whole current movement marquee names have taken such a huge gamble with the future of the human race? What was the pay-off? If there is no pay-off, no honest crookedness, then can these people possibly be trusted to make judgements on anything ? “I think it’s no exaggeration at all to say that millions will die. And in fact there’s pretty good evidence that millions already have died because of climate change,” he told the Newark, N.J.-based newspaper.

There's proof that millions have already died. Why are republicans denying that millions have already died? Have they NO SHAME ? Anthropogenic forcing is overwhelming the natural signal
Bovine excrito. Hang this one too ! Whoever had oversight on this thing (Haliburton?) should be sitting in the pen next to Cohen.
http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2013/07/afghanistan-audits-reveal-billions-in-u-s-taxpayer-waste/ Q) Okay, millions have died. How many have lived?
A) I ... I ... don't know what you mean. Q) Okay, the estimates are that arould 100 billion humans have ever been born. How many were born in the Devonian? http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/prehistoric-world/devonian/ None! A) Oh, oh, okay, I see your point. Down With the Devonian! Republicans LOVE the Devonian! Q) I think you've got it! A) Great! Thanks! Helen Thomas was admired because she kicked Republicans hard, Democrats not so much. Even Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich kicked Clinton more.
Zachriel, I believe in AGW over the time span of a century or two (or since the invention of agriculture, 10K y/a, which was the biggie). But it's small, it doesn't fit any of the predicted models, and there is zero evidence of it having caused harm, let alone led us to the brink of catastrophe. Second, even if it were as bad as the catastrophists say, China and India each have a billion people, and every single one of them wants a Buick*. Nothing we are going to do here changes that. This is a cultural and aesthetic argument about how people should live, masquerading as a science discussion. *CWCID PJ O'Rourke. Yep. And I'm borrowing it, AVI. As they say somewhere, never let a good quip go to waste.
Helen Thomas was an anti-jewish bigot and radical lefty. Her complaint with the Republicans was that they are not. She used her age and gender and even her disability (does anyone think she was all there???) to grab the attention at press conferences. If she had been a man or had no mental defect she would have been handed her ass 35 years ago. She should have gotten the treatment that poor Paula Deen got.
