We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

But let a denier claim that sunspot activity might actually be shutting down... and that's perfectly reasonable?

    I ... I ... just keep wondering, if the truth is what Rush Holt says it is, why on earth did he keep his mouth shut while IPCC was telling all those credibility destroying * lies ?

    I mean, it is a matter of life and death, right? Why would the whole current movement marquee names have taken such a huge gamble with the future of the human race?

    What was the pay-off? If there is no pay-off, no honest crookedness, then can these people possibly be trusted to make judgements on anything ?

    Zachriel, I believe in AGW over the time span of a century or two (or since the invention of agriculture, 10K y/a, which was the biggie). But it's small, it doesn't fit any of the predicted models, and there is zero evidence of it having caused harm, let alone led us to the brink of catastrophe.

    Second, even if it were as bad as the catastrophists say, China and India each have a billion people, and every single one of them wants a Buick*. Nothing we are going to do here changes that. This is a cultural and aesthetic argument about how people should live, masquerading as a science discussion.

    Helen Thomas was an anti-jewish bigot and radical lefty. Her complaint with the Republicans was that they are not. She used her age and gender and even her disability (does anyone think she was all there???) to grab the attention at press conferences. If she had been a man or had no mental defect she would have been handed her ass 35 years ago. She should have gotten the treatment that poor Paula Deen got.
