Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Musings about modern American education

 Twenty-five years ago, when the New York City public school system seemed permanently mired in mediocrity, a New York Times reporter asked me, “Alright, what’s the answer?”


I said, without thinking really, “One hundred nuns.”

I was kind of on board with this until the author's 'answer' to current schooling problems seemed to be to adopt The Finnish Model. He totally neglected to mention how in heck in the US we will get a culture as singular as Finland's.

I'm reasonably sure Finland isn't big on either 'diversity' nor 'multi-culturaliism'. We'd probably be better off, teaching/learning wise if we weren't so big on both.
