We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Smart move by Amazon. A heck of a lot more people read Goodreads than read the NYT Book Review or, God knows, the NY Review of Books or The London Review of Books. I do enjoy the intelligence of the London Review.
People still love books but, with the appealing Teaching Company DVDs, it's tough for me to do more than a book per week.
It's an OK website - couldn't seem to make heads or tails of it in the times I'd visited. Can't say that many of the reads were good, as they looked to me to be the level of airport gift shop reading.
I have an acquaintance who uses it solely to keep track of books she'd like to read - a sort of electronic TBR pile. She's admitted that the rest of the site is rather useless. Maybe Amazon can make something of it.
