We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
What we need are American History reading rooms. I originally thought it would be amusing to set one up in Cambridge outside Harvard but perhaps we need one near every school. These would be storefronts that offered copies of the original source documents, staffed by individuals abel to discuss American history and our form of government intelligently. Basically, provide the knowledge no longer available at universities and increasing K-12 schools.
Sure this could be done online and should but the physical presence outside universities that no longer offer decent American history programs...priceless. I expect the Left would want to picket such a radical facility.
"Since when was public education an area of control by the Feds?"
What do you think the Department of Education is for? Head Start (one of the least efficient uses of money in a heavy bureaucracy)? Job Corps? The only reason public education is what it is in any Western Secular Democracy is for inculcation and control, and they have been telling everyone this since at least Mann and, before that, the Prussian system.
