We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
So you pay for a dorm, or you pay not to stay in a dorm?!
Dorms are the antithesis of college learning. My grades went up after getting out of residence halls. It's a travesty that they force students to live in them.
Universities became big business after WWII. As such they became very structured while their leaders looked for ways to maximize revenue. It's amusing to read how students lived prior to that. While at Cal Tech (albeit grad school) Charles Townes stayed w/ 4-5 other students on the porch of a home in Pasadena.
