We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The problem is with the various federal programs to fund college. Most are means tested and most are intended for females and not for males. You can be a blithering idiot with a 9th grade education but if you are female and on welfare you will be lobbyed to "go to school" on the government dole.
An interesting aside; I worked at a community college with a nurising program and a fireman training program. Most of the slots for nurses were controlled, that is 15% for African Americans, 15% for hispanics, 15% for foriegn students, two slots for illegal aliens, etc.but ZERO set aside for male students. There may have been male nursing students but I never saw one. The fireman training started normally then political correctness set in and 15% were set aside for blacks, 15% for hispanic, etc. and 15% for women. No quota for male nurses but a quota for female firefighters.
There's a newly-discovered mental disorder that has been named Plurocausative Attribution Syndrome. It is characterized by the belief that superior outcomes for whites, men, and/or heterosexuals is caused by discrimination, but superior outcomes form women, homosexuals, or other races is caused by inherent superiority.
For instance, the over-representation of men in IT is caused by discrimination against women. But the over-representation of women in higher education is caused by the natural superiority of women.
I am not in favor of women in combat or even in jobs that might end up in combat. Two problems: 1)they can't do the job. One example of that is if you are in a Hummvee that gets disabled by enemy fire you are supposed to grab the 50 cal off the roof including it's removable mounting and run for cover. Three pieces weighing about 100 lbs total. For whatever reason skinny male recruits can generally do it but women cannot. Call it upper body strength or attitude but whatever it is they cannot do most of the tough combat heavy work. The typical way this is compensated for is they reduce the training requirements so that the women can pass and this reduces the skill/ability level of everyone. 2) When men and women are in the same unit the men are more concerned about the women then their job. Call it the fault of the men but it changes nothing. When the unit is all men usually they work cohesively when it is mixed between men and women the men work to get the attention of the females and to a lesser extent vice versa.
One last point; if women "can" choose to be in combat and men have no choice and will be placed in combat then you have created a system with a built in prejudice. let's stop screwing around with this whole men and women are equal meme. Either they are and lets put them in combat whether they want it or not just as we do with the men. Or they are not equal and we need to return to a military where the women worked as nurses and admin. Lets either do it including the draft or stop playing around making believe a female can pull combat duty including hand to hand combat.
