Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wednesday, November 7. 2012Ouch. That election did hurt.I finally have my power back (no thanks to government but with thanks to private industry who had a big job to do) just in time for a cold Nor'easter with snow blowing in and, while deeply disappointed but not surprised about the national elections, I am finding them interesting to reflect upon. A few things I have been thinking about are these: - the MSM runs interference for Dems, with passion and without regard to their professional integrity. They have done so since Nixon. It's worth billions in campaign funds or, really, it's priceless. They still have vast reach and influence in the culture at large. Just ask Obama. - a sad thought: the American life I live and the things I live by seem not to be the majority way anymore. That's too bad, but I won't change. John Hinderaker has the same feeling: America is a deeply divided country with a center-left plurality. Quote:
- What's with Hispanics? Are they a solid voting bloc? Would Rubio have made a difference? Who knows. He was my choice. - I give Mitt Romney a lot of credit for the nature of his campaign. A good man, not a rock star. - Sultan gets part of the Conservative-Libertarian challenge:

What's my reaction to President Barack Obama's victory?
On May 4, 2008, I said in a blog post: "The future belongs to neither the smart nor the strong. The future belongs to individuals who can adapt easily to change." The GOP should abandon its provincial ideas. Changing political positions on a few issues is easier than changing voter minds. Then what's the point? Same position just a different label? Why bother?
I didn't say every issue.
Life's full of little trade-offs. "I give Mitt Romney a lot of credit for the nature of his campaign. A good man, not a rock star."
Yes, indeed, he is a good man. His wife is also very graceful and charming. I still think the way Ann handled Whoppi Goldberg when Goldberg tried a "gotcha" question on The View - "Your religion forbids people from fighting, how is your husband going to send men to war when he, himself, can't. . ." Mrs. Romney set her straight on that issue - Wiped the smirk right off of Whoppi's face, she did, and done with a charming smile. I just hope that there are more good men and their families willing to step up to the plate each time despite knowing that the MSM will do their best to knock them down again and again and again. Rubio?
A relative in TX tells me people don't understand that the Hispanics outside of FL are not all that fond of Cuban-Americans, so we shouldn't put all our hopes there. The reason the Right is 40 years behind the Left is because we don't think Getting and Having Power is a fun hobby.
We enjoy all sorts of activities that have nothing to do with Telling Other People How to Live Their Lives, as the Maggie's residents here can show you in years worth of pictures. I guess we also think Telling Other People How to Live Their Lives is presumptious at best and Evil at worst (yeah, I'm Catholic- we have bad times ahead) Susan Lee I'm not a regular here, but the level of self pity and delusion on display in the post is just awe inspiring.
Well geez Dave, as you're not a regular, how 'bout pointing out what exactly's self-pitying and delusional about this particular post?
It's just that when you drop a drive-by comment like that it's easy to think you've just got a very set-piece understanding of things, and anything contradictory, well it's got to be delusional at the least. Maybe you've got a point-by-point? I mean, I could buy "delusion" before "self-pity". "What's with Hispanics?"
Man, I don't know. I mean, Mitt told them to self-deport, but they didn't. That hurt us. But regardless, I really don't understand why they voted for Obama. I just don't get it. You don't suppose they feel differently than us white establishment types about all the talk about deporting hispanics? I mean, that's the only thing I can think of, but that doesn't seem like it could be the reason. I just don't understand why the hispanics don't find the republican agenda appealing. I like it. "Mitt told them to self-deport, but they didn't. That hurt us."
The estimate is that illegal aliens cost the U.S. about $300 billion a year. That is real costs as in tax monies spent to educate, feed, house, health care, incarceration, etc. THAT hurts us. THAT is what is driving our tax payers into the poor house. That is why your property taxes are skyrocketing. THAT is why California is bankrupt and a few other states are following them. THAT is the problem with illegal immigration and amnesty won't fix it, amnesty will simply put a "legal" stamp on the problem. I disagree with your premise, i.e. that because someone is hispanic they want more illegal immigration and they want them to be handed papers once they enter the country. IF that is true THEN the people you are referring to are NOT American they ARE "hispanic" first. It may be fine to be something other then American but why are you here??? Why do you advocate for policies that will destroy this country. I think what is really happening is what we see Obama and the Democrats do so well and that is race bait and divide and conquer. The Democrats rabble rouse and race bait and throw around their offensive name calling in an attempt to paint the right as racist. They have done it with African-Americans for 50 years and now they are doing it with hispanics. THAT is where the divide has come from and not from the simple concept of enforcing our immigration laws. Dude, when are you going to stop beating your wife?
Seriously, did you even read my post? Way to show that straw man who's boss, though. Seems to me that the voters are going to get what they deserve and have voted for .... and hopefully good and hard.
I don't think any "long game" is going to cut it here. The country's best hope is complete financial collapse, followed by social collapse, and finally, a phoenix-like rebirth with older and wiser survivors. I need to come to grips with the fact that over half the voting public in this country are people I'm ashamed to share citizenship with, because they aren't exhibiting what I consider to be American virtues. But I'm getting used to living behind enemy lines. I predicted this. I said I'd be back after the election to point this out.
The problem is complex, however, I think we can get a glimpse of it right here in the pages of Maggie's. You all are just too dang polite. You expect being right about things to carry weight in this sick world. You don't want to tell your neighbors how to live. You, therefore, do not actively promote anything. You observe. Great observations here, the election sucked. You bet. We know now that Mitt got fewer votes than that old sick man McCain. Perhaps a little skirt would have helped, eh? Perhaps Mitt could have pandered to welfare queens. Who knows, but REPUBLICANS stayed home. Get used to it. As long as smart folks like you sit around talking to each other you can watch the good ship USA sail into the sunset. Been a nice ride. I think it's funny how NE folks act like it's winter all the time. 'Jokes on you, I got wood and oil. Should a been prudent like us wise ass New Englanders' We'll, dudes, jokes on you, that population bomb a few miles south of you will rise up and eat you one day. You can't ride it out like a snowstorm. You'll be gone... and our children will have to have more balls than you showed if they plan on being liberty minded for much more than the few years left before the crushing police state is finally assembled. Can't ride it out with quaint colloquial culture and finger pointing. |
