Maggie's Farm

So i'm awake about 2 a.m. one morning in early 2009 (often find that i'm awake when suffering a bout of insomnia) and in order to cascade the misery i log on to my trading account at a well-known if smaller brokerage --and i have over eight million dollars more than the peanuts i was expecting to see. Log out and back in again, it's eleven million too much. Rinse repeat, it's four million too much.

I've figgered out by then there's some journaling going on, and i leave it alone. Next day it's back to normal, with no transactions history of them millions of bucks. Email the broker asking why i had all that dough the night before, and he said, 'oh, those things happen'.

But i wonder, had i been of a certain sort, could i have transferred the journal entries to an outside account? I asked the guy and he wasn't sure, maybe i could've. He's an old friend --wasn't shining me on --he really had no idea, or felt he had to cover for the company.

Either way, needless to say, i was filled with confidence in the granite-like sobriety of the system.

--i'd confront him. It's probably up to a gallon jug of Ripple by now
