Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Monday, July 16. 2012Chicago's fatherless, feral lower depthsFrom Heather MacDonald's Chicago’s Real Crime Story - Why decades of community organizing haven’t stemmed the city’s youth violence:
The article is deeply depressing. The concepts of planning and of delayed gratification seem to be lost. It's consistent with my theory that many or maybe most people will go feral unless raised to civilization. Lord of the Flies. Is this the product of government policy? I think so. Nobody lived this way before The Great Society, and now it has become its own multigenerational subculture. It also seems clear to me that these teen mothers do not want husbands anyway. Why would they want to marry unreliable losers, drop-outs, or gang members? Or anybody? In my view, government can do nothing to fix what they have irretrievably broken in the name of compassion. Rich, poor, or in-between, big government programs lock people into things and inhibit change. Tragic. Another quote:
Maybe we need laws to prevent Corporate Greed from impregnating innocent teens. And we need more government services. That would solve it all. Trackbacks

Barrister ... Just as a matter of curiosity, why would I trust anything Gwen Rice says when sheapparently doesn't know the difference between 'mitigate' and 'militate'? As you and the other maggiesfarmers know, mitigate means to lessen or 'vitiate.' It's obvious that she means 'militate' "against black progress." But I tend to think that people who are sloppy about English aren't really clear thinkers in any way.
Marianne Yes we all know that only very civil people use proper English. All this depravity in this world could be set right if only those hoards of feral scum would just buck up and not misuse the English language.
What is needed is greedy Planned Parenthood clinics on every street corner advertising to double your food stamps with every abortion. There that is very proper and civil solution. I believe MM's point is not that the bad English signals depravity but that it betrays a vagueness of mind, which is a fair description of that extraordinary excerpt. "All this blame stuff, it makes my head to think about whether actions have consequences or whether people are responsible moral agents. Just empty your pockets and gimme the cash. I'm tired of effort."
I have a dear friend who is an EMT in Chicago's south side. He has often said that the black culture in Chicago is a subculture based entirely on violence. He witnesses it every day on the job.
The entire city of Chicago will be on welfare before long, and we hard-working, obstacle-overcoming Americans will be expected to pay. Otherwise, we will be racists.
Call me what you will, Chicago. My children come before yours. What do economic resources have to do with teaching children to be decent human beings?
Tens of millions of our immigrant ancestors arrived with what they could carry, most non-English speakers, packed into tenements, performing low wage menial labor, often in horrendous conditions, yet they instilled morality, decency and the will to better their lives in their children. Maggie's comment about The Lord of the Flies is exactly on point, and to some degree, it's happening in every strata of our society. Don't even get me started on middle class children's nonexistent manners, sense of entitlement, lack of consideration and/or respect for others property. What is their excuse? We're rewarding deviancy, boorish and crude behavior in the name of being cool, or worse in service of PC nonsense. We seem to have forgotten that decency and civility are the grease that allow the social wheel to turn. Oops...proof reading is not my strong suit...that should read:
"The Barrister's comment about The Lord of the Flies is exactly on point..." I'm sorry. It's too big, and there just aren't enough of us.
We're screwed. These 12 Hellholes Are Examples Of What The Rest Of America Will Look Like Soon
http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/these-12-hellholes-are-examples-of-what-the-rest-of-america-will-look-like-soon Send this article to all you know. Heather's assessment of Chicago's poverty class and the idiotic stabs at blaming "the system" by Obama, the Jesse Jacksons, Rev. Wright, etc. haven't made one iota of difference since the mid-60's. They get rich off the very system they criticize while, every morning, another Black brother is murdered by one of his own. I know Carter High School, I know Algeld Gardens, I know the billions of dollars stuffed in politicians pockets. I hope all the taxpayers recognize this is a scam.
The media deserves much credit for ignoring the details. Obama had no credentials when he was a community organizer; he has none now. "Historically, you can’t expect a parent who can’t get a job to do something that someone with resources can do."
Ms. Rice, you have the wrong end of the stick. You are swapping cause for effect. I suggest that what you should expect is that someone will not become a parent until they have a job and/or are married to someone who does. As my IT Department always says - It's a feature, not a bug!
If inner city families were prosperous and functional, do you think they would constantly re-elect race-baiting, welfare promising leftists? |
