Dalrymple on the rioters:

"There are people here with nothing," this rioter continued: nothing, that is, except an education that has cost $80,000, a roof over their head, clothes on their back and shoes on their feet, food in their stomachs, a cellphone, a flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, an electric stove, heating and lighting, hot and cold running water, a guaranteed income, free medical care, and all of the same for any of the children that they might care to propagate.

But while the rioters have been maintained in a condition of near-permanent unemployment by government subvention augmented by criminal activity, Britain was importing labor to man its service industries. You can travel up and down the country and you can be sure that all the decent hotels and restaurants will be manned overwhelmingly by young foreigners; not a young Briton in sight (thank God).

It's about the unintended consequences of undiscerning compassion. Or, to be a bit more cynical, vote-buying. Genuine gratitude is the rarest of human sentiments.

Heck, we're doing it here too - go to any McD's, Home Depot, or any other entry-level employer, and you'll see far more Latinos and other foreign born workers, very happy to be working, and, honestly, do a pretty good job.
The language hurdle can be a handful, but their customer service is FAR better than the normal disgruntled US ones - narrowed eye-contact, acid-tainted verbal discharge, and the "don't know, can't help ya, ain't my department" comment often given.
My wife works HR for a grocery chain, and she's noticed (more and more) the applicants whom refuse the job because it pays min. wage, and not higher. C'mon people, they call it entry-level for a reason!

We did it here. Remember LBJs war on poverty that was going to abolish poverty in a generation? LBJs great idea was to give poor people other peoples money and it would turn them into regular hard working, tax paying middle class citizens. It didn't quite work out as advertised but it wasn't all bad, from the democrats point of view. We now have a permanent economic underclass that reliably votes democrat in return for a handout. They are hooked on handouts.

This sounds like my observations of California on recent trips there. Tons of Hispanics and other immigrants working their tails off (illegal or legal, I have no clue), whether in restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, etc. But nary a native-born "American" doing any work, at least work that requires real effort.

I came to the tentative conclusion after my most recent trip that maybe the immigrants (legal and illegal) deserve to take over the country. They certainly are the ones putting effort into it now.

I love reading your stuff (but rarely comment) and find myself agreeing with most of y'all's insights, but I think you made a mistake re: "...unintended consequences of undiscerning compassion."
This is not unintended. Not even close.
I know you know about Cloward - Piven, but in England, a man named Andrew Neather made teh startling admission that the idea behind mass immigration was to "...remove all trace of Britishness."! Melanie Phillips wrote a great article about him, so google search for either name and you'll see that it's about treason plain and simple.
My thought is, since so many libiots here want to emulate Europe, I can't believe there isn't an unspoken consensus among the Domestic Enemies here to accomplish the same thing.

I know folks here are a bit more cerebral than most other sites I frequent, but there's only one way to stop this and it ain't gonna' happen via elections...
