A most unfortunate mistake. The politicians and the media keep pushing the same meme, i.e that Social Security and Medicare are unsustainable. The ignorant pick up on it and this gives cover to the real problem.

Imagine if you will that you have two programs. One is welfare which is 100% paid for by our income taxes to the tune of about $1.2 billion a year. The second program is Social Security which is 100% paid for by the participants in their Social Security payments. The Social security system has not taken any money from the tax revenues in it's entire history and in fact has about $4 trillion owed to it by the federal government when they took funds from it. Why then would the politicians harp on the Social Security system as being unsustainable and not a word about our over generous and constantly bankrupt welfare system??? The answer is simple: They do not want to pay back the trillions they borrowed from the system and they want to keep buying votes with welfare.

Medicare is indeed costing more then it takes in. Yet it does receive dedicated funding from the Medicare deduction in your payroll taxes. A simple fix would be to increase the deduction. On the other hand the Medicaid system which is welfare sucks solely off the taxpayer teat. 100% of Medicaid costs are paid for from the general fund. So again the question is why the attack on Medicare but complete and total silence about Medicaid?? Again the answer is the politicians want to use the income going into Medicare for other purposes (Obamacare) and they want to continue to buy the vote of the welfare bums.

There is only one possible conclusion from all of this. Whenever you hear someone repeat the MEME that Social Security and Medicare must be cut and they are not sustainable there are only two possibilities: 1)They are knowingly lying. 2)They are ignorant. (possibly they could be both.)
