We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Frankly I'm a little sick of Sarah Palin especially when reading last week she bought a $1,700,000 house in Arizona. Sure wouldn't mind seeing a Maggie's Farm spin on this. I have defended her time and again against fellow conservatives and liberals who never hesitate and delight in calling her stupid.
If anyone knows of a link to her defense of this house purchase I would love to see it.
Grant ... The lady is far from stupid. She is constantly learning.
She has a large family [five children] and they have a way of proliferating. and she needs a place to live in the lower 48, where it doesn't hit 75 degrees below zero for weeks at a time. If she decides to run, she can get air transportation much more easily down here than she can in Alaska. Do you know that the only way to get into the capital of Alaska from the rest of the state is by private plane or boat? No direct highway route. A lot of the Alaskans we know have another home in the lower 48 where the weather is more friendly.
Tell me, Grant... are you critical of her because she has two houses? Do you feel that "it's not fair?" Surely not.
"I have defended her time and again against fellow conservatives.."
You sure don't sound like a conservative. A real conservative would not think the size or price of another person's house is a matter of anyone else's concern. A real conservative would accept that Palin has worked hard to make a good living and has become successful enough in what she does to afford that house. A real conservative would say that Palin is living the American dream; and would say, good for her! A real conservative would not be angry at, envious of, or jealous of Palin; a real conservative would say, Hurrah!
What is your threshold for getting upset at the cost of Palin's house? Would you be less upset if the house cost only $1 million? $500K? Where do you draw the line? Do you feel the same way about, to name just two well known public figures, Bill Gates or Oprah? They are both rich and very liberal. Nonetheless, I say, Good for them! Their success and fortunes do not diminish my life one bit. Quite the opposite. I'm happy for them because they are both proof that the conservative philosophy is right: work hard, come up with a good idea, mix in one part skill and one part luck and, Voila! In America you still can go from dirt poor to "disgustingly" rich. What a great, wonderous country! Damn, let's not ruin it.
Sarah Palin is an entertainer. She will not run. And I take her as seriously as I do Jesse Ventura or Al Franken. Entertaining yes. Given the keys to the nuclear arsenal during uncertain times, I don’t think so. But I’m just one vote.
But who would you rather see with the keys, Sarah or BO?
After all, now she would have a nice 1.7M house to think about before initiating all that property damage.
