Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Even David Brooks likes Ryan

Brooks' Moment of Truth, today:



The Ryan proposal will help settle the fight over the government shutdown and the 2011 budget because it will remind everybody that the real argument is not about cutting a few billion here or there. It is about the underlying architecture of domestic programs in 2012 and beyond.


The Ryan budget will put all future arguments in the proper context: The current welfare state is simply unsustainable and anybody who is serious, on left or right, has to have a new vision of the social contract.

Geez! I didn't know that the NYT was still in business? The link took me there so I suppose they are still hanging on. Reading the comments show the liberals are still blaming tax cuts for the nations economic problem, not drunken democrats.. Hmmmm, will they ever learn?

The comments are revealing. Some just yell that nothing should be cut. Some complain that Ryan doesn't up "revenue" (taxes on the rich - hello, if you live in NYC, you ARE rich), some blame the banks and Wall St. (hello again, NYC?).

My favorite is blaming Republicans for "waging endless wars". Have you read the news lately?
