We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
In the last few days, Mr. O has repeated once again one of the Administration's favorite myths about our energy problems: "We can't escape the fact that we control only 2% of the world's oil." This is totally false and pernicious rubbish. I know that they would like it to be true, because that would place us at the mercy of some of the globe's worst dictators. But that false estimate excludes many of our country's richest proven reserves where we are already drilling -- or were, until the Administration totally shut down the drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, because of an accident on a rig not owned and operated by an American company.
That ridiculously low estimate of Mr. Obama's does not include the 10-billion barrel proven reserves in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It does not include most of the 86 billion barrels available offshore on our Outer Continental Shelf, most of which President Obama has placed under his executive drilling ban. It does not include the more than 800 billion barrels of oil and natural gas we have in huge shale fields in Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado as well as Pennsylvania and Texas.
These shale proven resources alone are actually three times larger than all the proven reserves in Saudi Arabia. They're within our own borders, we have the technologies and skills to produce them now if the government will for once stop being obstructive and let us do it.
Just think. No more artificial fuel crises. No more putting up with dictators, bullies and other troglodytes. Now that's a change I could believe in!
That silly 2% claim is necessary to justify Barry’s belief that the USA has been on several crusades to trade blood for oil. If he acknowledged how much we could pump without shedding blood, it would shatter the Prog view of US imperialism.
